Mumbai: City of Seekers

Mumbai (moom-BYE) is a metropolitan city in India — if you look it up on the internet, you will see that it also used to be called Bombay.

The sun is hot and the traffic is busy. Vehicles honk and swerve on the paved streets, dodging pedestrians, goats and dogs.  Slums press right up to the high-rise apartment buildings.

Women in business suits rush past women carrying bundles on their heads, dressed in ornate saris. Men fill every possible spot on the busses, spilling out the doors, on their way to work.

Children play cricket with a bottle cap and stick. Teenagers sit under the trees to share shade and headphones. Pig-tailed girls dressed in beige school uniforms hold hands and cross the street.

In the evening, women buy onions, garlic, ginger and potatoes. Then sitting on mats on the floor or at decorative dining room tables, families eat supper together.

People from all over India move to Mumbai in hopes of making their dreams come true. They come as seekers: seeking wealth, seeking a better future to share with their family. Please pray for these seekers that they will also seek Jesus Christ and find Him. (Luke 11:9)
